Today I was at the checkout at a department store. The clerk asked me if I had my loyalty card for savings. I said I don’t have one but my wife probably does. Can you look it up with her phone number? The clerk replies “oh no, we don’t use phone numbers for security reasons.” She immediately follows that up with “but you can signup today and save 5$. Can I see your driver’s license?” I said sure and handed her my license without thinking.

The next thing I know there’s a screen asking for my yearly incoming. I tried to click past it and I told her I’m not giving you that information. She proceeds to enter a number of $30,000. I look at her puzzled. The next screen asks for my social security number. I laughed and told her that there’s no way I’m giving you that information. She said but you’ll save $5. I laughed and said “no thank you, I’m good.”

When I told my wife this story she told me that they were signing me up for a store credit card. I literally thought it was for one of those loyalty cards which is how the transaction began.

People, the more I get to know them the more I miss my dog.
